Private John Thompson (Service No:QX7223) enlisted in the AIF on 15 April 1940 as a Sapper - Operator Excavator, Platelayer - and served with 3 Railway Construction Coy in the Middle East (Palestine, Gaza Ridge, Kantara, Jerusalem) from 22 September 1940 to 28 February 1943. Sapper Thompson then served in Borneo with 1 Mechanical Equipment Platoon (May to October 1945), and was attached to 2/3 Australian Railway Construction Coy at Discharge on 13 November 1945.
John was born in Brisbane QLD in 1917, eldest child of Harriet May Budd (b1898 in Brisbane, QLD), and was raised in a foster family (his foster sister was named as NoK in his Attestation Papers, and his mother's whereabouts were unknown; NAA).
John worked as a Labourer (Road Works) in Brisbane prior to enlisting in the Army, and following Discharge worked as a Fitter's Labourer. In 1951 in Brisbane he married Amelia Frances White (nee Beck; b1918 in Jericho, QLD) - Amelia was living on Cribb Island via Sandgate and working as a Processor. John and Amelia settled in Brisbane (Inala), where they raised their family and John worked as a Storeman Packer until his death in 1976. Amelia died in 1986.
