Albert was the son of Robert and Sarah Jane Goss[ nee Smith]. Albert left
Adelaide on the Afric on 9 June 1916 and was sent to France with his unit on
25 November. He was hospitalised with a hernia on 4 March. He was
appointed Lance Corporal on 1 August. Contracting mumps led to another six
weeks of hospitalisation in February and March in 1918, prior to rejoining his
unit on 24 March.
He was wounded in action sustaining a gunshot wound to his right ankle on 4
July. This led to Albert being invalided to England on 22 July and returned to
Australia on the Kanowna on 14 January 1919, disembarking on 26 February
and discharged on 20 March 1920.
Pam Biggs, a descendant of Albert Goss, stated he died on 1 August 1981 aged
84, at the Daw Park Repatriation Hospital and was buried at Centennial Park
Path 22, Grave 325A.
