Vale George Sydney Steele
George Sydney Steele, aged 59 years, died suddenly on; Tuesday evening 14th inst. and was buried in the Gordonvale cemetery to-day, Rev. Father; Kenrick officiating at the Roman Catholic Church and graveside. De-ceased was a brother of Mrs. E. A. Roberts.
Enlisting in 1916 with the'"Cane, beetles," on their memorable recruiting march, from Babinda to Cairns, de ceased saw active service overseas with the 25th Battalion, A.I.F. During the last eighteen months he had been in indifferent health, and eight months of this time was spent as an inmate of the Brisbane hospital. Born at Cooktown, he was taken to the Palmer goldfields as a baby, and lived his early life at Croydon and through the north, prospecting, droving and min-ing. In his youth he was a splendid athlete and a good sport. One more old soldier goes down the vale to join his former comrades. Vale, Syd. Steele!
