Aircraftman I Gordon Henry Walk (Service No:435916) served in the Militia before enlisting in the ACMF on 23 December 1941 as a Private (Service No:Q135715) with 11 and 29 Infantry Battalions. Posted to 39 Infantry Battalion, Private Walk served in New Guinea (10 September 1942 - 28 January 1943), and was attached to 39th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 27 October 1943 'being required for service with the RAAF' (NAA). ACI Walk enlisted in the RAAF on 28 October 1943 at No 3 Recruiting Centre Brisbane - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Fitter - and was attached to 3 School of Technical Training Ultimo at Discharge on 29 March 1945.
Gordon was born in Bundaberg, QLD in 1922, third of seven children of Heinrich (Charles Henry) Carl Walk (b1881 in Kalkie via Bundaberg, QLD) and Ada Valentine Hall (b1894 in Bundaberg, QLD). Charles worked in Charleville as a Windmill Expert and in 1914 he and Ada married in Brisbane. The couple lived initially at Burrum River via Howard, where Charles was a Farmer, before settling in Bundaberg where they raised their family and Charles was a Cane Farmer.
Gordon worked at 'Windermere' in Barolin via Bundaberg, where he was a Farm Labourer in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1944 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Gordon married Norma Rose Hurst (b1926 in Newcastle, New South Wales), and following his Discharge from the RAAF, Gordon and Norma settled in the Bundaberg region, where they raised their family and Gordon was a Farmer until his death in 1980. Norma died in 2009.
