Son of George William and Georgina Russell of 'Avoca', Meade Street, Glen Innes, NSW; brother of Mrs. M.H. Purdue
Prior to enlisting he was a member of the Glen Innes Rifle Unit
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Russell, of Glen Innes, were also notified yesterday of the death in action in France of their son, Pte. C. G. Russell, a member of the 36th Battalion. The deceased hero, who was 22 years of age, had been on active service for over two years, daring which period he took part in many of the big "stunts' on the Western front. The late Pte. Russell, who was a member of the teaching staff of the local Church of England Sunday School, was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, and his passing away will be deeply regretted by a large circle of friends.
