He was 25 and the second son of James Borthwick and Mary Judhope.
Obituary : Robert Borthwick - Australian Infantry, Australian Imperial Forces [DALKEITH ADVERTISER 30 August 1917]: Mr and Mrs Borthwick, Lingerwood Farm, have been informed that their second son, Robert, reported wounded and missing on August 4, 1916, is now officially presumed to have been killed in action on that date. Private Borthwick enlisted at Adelaide, in the Australian Infantry, early in the war. Previous to his departure for Australia five years ago, he was in the employment of Mr Scott at Oxgangs, Colinton, where his family then resided. A younger brother is also on service with the Australian Imperial Force.
