A witness stated that he saw from about 10 yards away, a shrapnel shell hit Bremen. He saw Bremen fall but could not wait to see as he had to go on at the time. This occurred just to the left of Lone Pine on the 25 April 1915. The same shell also struck 1361 Private George Hewitt 5th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, died of wounds 30 April 1915, and 1285 Private Sydney Albert Pickering 5th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, killed in action 25 April 1915, and 1323 Private Joseph Victor Hollingsworth, 5th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, killed in action 25 April 1915.
