Billy was the sixth of nine children of Arthur Henry Wickerson (b1891 at Maroochy River, QLD) and Kate Sarah Boyce (b1895 in Ipswich, QLD). Arthur - a Farmer - and Kate married in 1914 in Nambour, QLD and settled at Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast where they raised their family. Arthur and his brother Joseph served briefly in WWI.

Billy was a Cane Cutter at Bli Bli when he enlisted in the ACMF in August 1943. He served (Private; Service No:Q204793) with the Volunteer Defence Corps (QLD) and was Discharged in October 1945. Billy's father, uncle, two brothers, cousin and three brothers-in-law also served in WWII.

In 1945 Billy married Joyce Elizabeth Sibbald and renlisted with the Regular Army. He and his family lived in Singleton in 1949 and moved around QLD on postings - Brisbane, Stanthorpe, Townsville whilst Billy was a Soldier. He was Discharged in 1970 and he and Joyce settled in Brisbane, where Billy worked as a Weight Inspector. Billy died in 1998.
