Wounded in Action
Received shrapnel from an Australian artillery shell which landed short of aimed target while D company where climbing steep slope of Charlies Hill during The Battle of The Ridges campaign south of Salamaua near the village of Kamiaturn.
The shrapnel entered his spinal column and it was concluded too dangerous to operate on for fear of further injury.
Was held off the line to two days to recover from the injury before being sent forward again.
