Lieutenant Fletcher Robert Worland (Service No:QX9208) enlisted in the AIF at Brisbane City Hall on 14 June 1940 as a Private and was attached to 2nd/25th Infantry Battalion on 7 April 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Intelligence Duties in the Middle East. Promoted to Sergeant, he embarked from the Middle East for Melbourne on 31 March 1942, before serving with 2nd/25th Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (31 August 1942 - 25 December 1942 and 19 February 1943 - 16 August 1943. Appointed to a commissioned rank on 13 November 1943, Lieutenant Worland served with 2/9th Infantry Battalion and was attached to 2nd/25th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 25 February 1946.

Fletcher was born in Seymour, Victoria in 1914, second of three children of Henri James Worland (b1883 in Warrnambool, Victoria) and his first wife Charlotte (Lottie) Rachel Fletcher (b1885 in Warrnambool, Victoria). Henri - Town Clerk in Warrnambool - and Lottie married in 1911 in Warrnambool. Henri worked in Seymour as Shire Secretary for the Seymour Shire Council and, following Lottie's death in 1918, settled in Warrnambool, where he was Town Clerk, Magistrate and JP, and a member of the Warrnambool Hospital Committee and Technical School Council. Henri remarried in 1919, retiring to Nambour, QLD in 1969.

Fletcher started work as a Clerk in Warrnambool in the early 1930s, and was working as a Farm Hand (Cotton Growing) in Monto QLD in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1941 in Melbourne, he married Beryl Ismay Stevenson (b1915 in Colac, Victoria) - Beryl was working as a Clerk in Melbourne. Following his Discharge from the Army, Fletcher and Beryl settled in Nambour, where they raised their family and Fletcher was a Farmer until the early 1950s, then worked as a Clerk. Beryl died in 1989 and Fletcher in 1997.
