Sergeant Percy Frederick Wright (Service No:Q226857) was in the Senior Cadets (1920 - 1922), and served in the ACMF with 8 Battalion VDC from 29 May 1942 to 21 October 1945.
Percy was born in Brisbane QLD in 1906, second of five children of George Gardiner Wright (b1880 in Brisbane, QLD) and Eva Alice Moorhouse (b1878 in Middlesex, England) - Eva immigrated in 1887, arriving in Brisbane with her parents and siblings on board the Dacca. George started work with the Government Printing Office as a Junior Assistant Telegraph Operator, and was an Assistant Telegraph Operator in 1903 when he and Eva married in Brisbane. The couple settled in Brisbane where they raised their family, and in 1920 George resigned from the Public Service to establish a partnership with TC Kerr MLA as Chartered Accountants. Renowned as a Tax Expert, George was appointed Auditor for the City of Brisbane, was Secretary of the Queensland Tax Agents' Association, and was a Freemason - master of Fernberg Lodge and a Royal Arch First Principal.
Percy finished school at Boys' Grammar School in 1922, and in 1923 started work as a Student Teacher at Ithaca Creek State School in Brisbane. In 1929 he was a Teacher at Mackay State High School and Technical College, and in 1930 completed a Bachelor of Arts at The University of Queensland. Admitted to practice as a Barrister in 1931, Percy was working in Warwick in 1935, when he married Leila (Bid) Grace Johnson (b1905 in Warwick, QLD) - Bid was working in Warwick as a Typist. Percy and Bid settled in Warwick, where they raised their family and Percy worked as a Solicitor before moving to Brisbane in 1946 when Percy was appointed a King's Counsel. Percy and Bid settled in Brisbane, where Percy worked as a Solicitor. Bid died in 1982 and Percy in 1986.
