Son of Edwin Thomas Oldham and Emily Irving Oldham nee Campbell of Pyengana, Tasmania.

Brother of Oscar McGregor Oldham who died of wounds on 19 June 1918 while serving with the 10th Field Artillery Brigade. He is buried in the Crouy British Cemetery, Plot 11, Row E, Grave 27.

Commenced return to Australia on 15 June 1919 aboard HT Swakopmund disembarking on 4 August 1919

On 10 March 1920 William married Margaret Elsie Le Fevre in St Michael & All Angels Church, Pyengana, Tasmania.
