When Henry Baulch enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published with the rank and file in The Brisbane Courier, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private H. Baulch, single, Homebush Road, Mackay. He served the full tour of the 1st QMI returning to Brisbane where he was discharged on 23 Jan 1901.
Henry Baulch was born in 1874 at Glamorgan, Wales, a son to Charles Baulch and Ann Baulch (nee Howard). He was twice married. He first married Jane Dunne on 5 Feb 1904 in Queensland and they had 2 children before Jane passed in 1918. He then married Susan Jane Howard on 24 Sep 1919 in Queensland and they had at least 3 children.
Henry emigrated to Australia as a young child with his parents and siblings with the family settling at Mackay where his father established a cane farm. After returning from the war he worked various labouring jobs before returning to the family farm in Mackay. He went on to conduct cane farming in Mackay and later in Proserpine.
