When George Ernest Buckby enlsited in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as R. Buckby, Narangba. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 71, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his brother Mr. R. W. Buckby, Tram Depot, Logan Rd, South Brisbane, being his older brother Richard William Buckby (Jnr).

George Ernest Buckby was born in 1882 at Grafton, NSW, a son to Richard William Buckby (Snr.) and Clara Edith Buckby (nee Smith). He married Rose Matilda Nicholson on 14 Mar 1908 in Queensland and they had 6 children.
