76 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 28th February 1946, Private Thomas Gibson, 30th Battalion (Reg No-4545), labourer from 9 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 63. ANGLICAN 1-44. 84.

Born at Broadmeadow, New South Wales on the 29th September 1882 to William (died 1921) and Dinah (died 1906) Gibson, Tom enlisted November 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 24.4.1918 (gassed).

Tom returned home August 1919, being discharged on the 28th September 1919.

Younger brother Samuel (30th Battalion & Australian Corps Headquarters, Reg No-2341, born 1894, died 1955, Newcastle, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.

Mr. Gibson’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor and the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor (photo, unveiled on the 23th May 1918, 372 names inscribed, 36 Fallen). Name not inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the Hamilton St. Peter's Anglican Church Honor Roll.

Tom’s headstone plaque proudly tells us of his service with the 30th Battalion, and I have placed poppies in remembrance of his sacrifice for God, King & Country.
