Son of James and Rebecca CONNOR, Husband of Frances Connor, 36 Bonner Avenue, Steyne, Manly, New South Wales
Served for 3 years 6 months in the Victorian Mounted Rifles (6 months as Corporal); Prov. Mounted Police, 6 months (Sergeant); South African Constabulary, 3 years (Sergeant Major).
Lieutenant John Wright Connor has died of wounds in France on May 6. Lieut. Connor had been for some years in Albury, being employed in the Mechanical Department of the "Banner" office. While here he married a daughter of Senior Sergeant (now Inspector) Musgave. He had seen service in the South African War, after which he went to England. He was a fine all round athlete, and was a moted Marathon runner. At one time he endeavored to make a record for the 24 miles run, starting from the Albury Post Office at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and running to Bowna and back without a stop, reaching Albury on return before dark. Lieutenant connor was very popular among all who knew him, and news of his death will occasion much regret.
