William John Daniels was born on 22 Dec 1877 at Britton Ferry, Glamorganshire, South Wales, a son to William Edward Daniels and Elizabeth Daniels (nee Rogers). He married Emily Isobel (Isabell) Graham on 19 Sep 1904 in Queensland and they had four children. He passed away at the Mount Olivet Hospital, Kangaroo Point, Queensland.

He served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. First service was as a Private S.N. 291 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Private S.N. 2588 in the 26th Infantry Battallion transferring to the 52nd Infantry Battalion AIF, WW1. He was wounded in action on 1 Aug 1916 at Pozieres, France, suffering a gunshot wound to his right ankle. Due to his injury he was returned to Australia for discharge.
