Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
William Scott had been born in Scotland. He was living in Hendra, Queensland when he enlisted, a married man and the father of four infant girls.
William Scott was a seaman of note and was present at the taking of German New Guinea, serving with the Australian Naval section of the Australian Naval and Military Expedition.
He was killed in action during the 49th Battalion’s attack on the formidable German positions at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916, a day which cost the Australians dearly in casualties.
His wife, Marion, passed away in 1922, and his memorial plaque was sent out to his eldest daughter, during 1930, when she had reached the age of 20.
