Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When James Hart enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private J. Hart, single, Helidon. He was invalided from service due to enteric fever returning to Brisbane where he was discharged 8 Sep 1900. When he passed in 1940 his memorial plaque noted he was 74 years of age.

James Hart was born in about 1866, at a location yet to be determined, a son to James Hart amd Maria Hart (nee Chambers). Not long after returning from the war he married Mary Ann Doherty on 7 Nov 1900 at her parents residence at Helidon. On their Marriage Notice published in The Queenslander, 24 Nov 1900, it was noted he was a member of the Queensland First Contingent. They had 4 children and resided at Helidon for a period before moving to Brisbane.
