When Joseph Hinds enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. R. Hinds, Jimboombah.
Joseph Hinds was born on 12 Jul 1875 in Brisbane, a son to Joseph Royal Hinds and Mary Ann Hinds (nee Carrs). He married Ida Mabyn Love on 23 Jun 1920 in Queensland and they had at least 3 children. He owned and resided on a dairy farm in Jimboombah and served as a councillor on the Tambourine Shire Council.
