Served in both the South Afiican (Boer) war and WW1. First service was as a Private S.N. 477, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Lieutenant, Australian Medical Corps- Dental Unit, AIF, WW1.
When Edgar Septimus Hobson enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father St. Albans, Manning St, South Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 142, it is noted he directed part of his pay to Mr. E. J. Hobson (his father).
He enlisted again in 1917 for WW1 and on his Attestation Paper, dated 22 Oct 1917, it was noted that; he was born at Maryborough on 21 Jul 1876 and was 41 years and 2 months old; he was married and a Dental Surgeon; his N.O.K. was his wife Mrs. Edith Louisa Hobson, East Brisbane; and he had previously served with the 5th QIB in South Africa.
Edgar Septimus Hobson was born on 21 Jul 1876 at Maryborough, a son to Edmund Jephson Hobson and Ellen Hobson (nee Bailey). He married Edith Louisa Hitchcock on 8 Dec 1903 at All Saint's Church, Fortitude Valley. They had 5 children and lived at East Brisbane while he practised as a Dental Surgeon at Wooloongabba. He was well known in yatching circles having been a foundation member of the South Brisbane Sailing Club and a life member of the Royal Queensland Yatch Club.
