1 May 1901: Involvement Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Farrier Sergeant, 536, Bushveldt Carbineers (BVC), - Recorded rank was "Sergeant Shoe Smith". - On 1 Dec 1901, BVC became the Pietersburg Light Horse. - During this time he was with the Cattle Ranger Corp.
1 May 1901: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 55, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, Records indicate the soldier did not return home with the 3rd QMI and instead enlisted on 1 May 1901 with the Bushveldt Carbineers from which he was discharged on 13 Nov 1901.
