Biography contributed

Alfred Robert Horton was born in 1871 at Devenport, Devon, England, a son to Thomas Horton and Jane Mary Horton (nee Vivian). He married Anna Emelia Kirchner on 12 Feb 1901 in Queensland and they had one son.

He served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. For his first service he enlisted as a Private S.N. 303 with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen but did not embark with them, instead embarking as a Private S.N. 288 with the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. For his second service he enlisted as a Private S.N. 3369 with the 4th Australian Pioneer Battalion AIF, WW1.
