Biography

Albert Leslie Roberts was born at Warialda, on 26th January, 1896. He enlisted in the Army on 15th June, 1915, as a Private 1253 (not 1233 as appears on this site), in the 6th Light Horse Regiment, he then transferred and was promoted to Gunner, in the 58th Battery. He suffered a bomb wound to his left hand on 2nd January, 1916, and was also hospialised several times, both in France and England, suffering bronchitis, and also a heart condition during 1916/17. He returned to Australia, 18th September, 1917. He was medically discharged from the Army due to his heart condition, on 22nd October, 1917. The address on his service documents for his parents was given as “Roseleigh, Warialda”. Albert married Amy May Redman at Inverell, in 1920. Amy was born at Narrandera, 18th August, 1902. Albert died at Gloucester, on 27th July, 1961, and is buried at Gloucester General Cemetery. Amy died at her residence, Chamberlain Street, Campbelltown, on 18th October, 1948, and is buried at Campbelltown Cemetery.
