Dr. H. G. Loughran who had practised at Kyneton for many years died yesterday morning after an illness of some months.
Dr. Loughran was a medical student at the Melbourne University when the South African war broke out. He went to the war and on his return he practised in Western Australia, Queensland and at Daylesford where he enlisted in the 14th Battalion on the outbreak of the Great War. As regimental medical officer he was at the landing at Gallipoli.
After the war he resumed practice at Kyneton where he had lived since. Dr Loughran, when studying at the University, was lightweight champion of the University and a member of the tennis, golfing, and rifle shooting teams. He was the first president of the Kyneton sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers' League and vice-president at the time of his death. He was a member of the progress association, health officer for the Shire of Kyneton and surgeon for the Kyneton Racing Club. One son Major Lewis Loughran is abroad with the AIF, and the other son, Dr Gerald Loughran is carrying on his father's practice in Kyneton. He is survived also by a widow and 2 daughters.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Mary's of the High Rosary Church, Kyneton, today at 10 am, after which the funeral will leave for the Kyneton Cemetery.
