Eduard was born on 29th September, 1873 in Lindenhof, East Prussia (now Poland)
His parents were Heinrich Anton MATTFELD & Sophia Dorothea Wilhelmine August CREYDT - the family arrived in Australia on the ship Glenavon which reached Adelaide on 2nd February, 1876 - the parents were naturalised in South Australia in 1876
Edward served with the 6th South Australian Imperial Bushmen as a Trooper, embarking for South Africa on 6th April, 1901 & he returned to Australia via Albany, WA on 22nd April, 1902 from Capetown on the ship Manchester Mercant for Adelaide, SA
He married Ethel Eleanor CUNNINGHAM in South Australia in 1905
He died on 23rd September, 1948 in Wickepin, Western Australia and is buried in Narrogin Cemetery, WA - Ref. MET L 10
