Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Alexander Ohmsen (as recorded by Murray on the Boer War Nominl Roll) is recorded under an alternative given name on other records. His details on the various Qld BDM registers records him as Alec Ohmsen; his funeral notice in the Courier Mail records him as Alick Ohmsen, with a request for members of the African War Veterans' Assoc to attend; with the Probate Notice placed by the Public Curator in the Courier Mail recording him as Alick Ohmsen, also known as Alec Ohmsen.

When Alexander Ohmsen enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Miss E. Ohmsen, Hill Top, Clifton.

Aleck Ohmsen was born on 1 Feb 1880 in Queensland, a son to William Ohmsen and Christina Ohmsen (nee Petersen or Pederson). He was twice married. He married Line Jensen in Queensland on 21 Feb 1903 and they had 5 children before Line passed on 16 Mar 1915. He then married Rose Porter on 6 May 1916 in Queensland and they had 3 children.

When he returned from the war in 1902 he secured work in Brisbane with the Tramway Department where he worked as a Tramway Motorman for 44 years before retiring in 1946. He was last living in Fortitude Valley when he passed in 1952.
