| 8 May 1901: | Honoured Mention in Dispatches, 8th May 1901.—Lieutenant H A Reid, for the exceedingly smart manner in which he effected the capture of a force double his number, together with a maxim gun. Sergeant P J Williams and Private T H Porter (promoted Corporal) volunteered to carry despatches from General Plumer to General Beatson, a distance of 60 miles through enemy's country; they got there and returned safely, though fired on, burning a Boer field forge en route. |

Enlisted as 111 Thomas Hedley Porter as part of the 4th Contingent Western Australian Mounted Infantry.
Served in the Anglo Boer War from 1900-1901 for a period of 18 months.

8th May 1901.—Lieutenant H A Reid, for the exceedingly smart manner in which he effected the capture of a force double his number, together with a maxim gun. Thomas married Christina Isabel Flora Hess in 1925, in Midland Junction, Western Australia, Australia. Thomas died on 11 September 1943, in Perth, Western Australia, at the age of 67, and was buried in Karrakatta Cemetery, Western Australia.
Thomas was a member of the South African War Association ( WA Branch) and member of the RSILA.
