Son of James Hayhoe and Ellen Hayhoe nee Lambert of Dixie, Victoria. Brother of Robert John Hayhoe who returned to Australia on 24 August 1919 having served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment, Hilda May Hayhoe, Emma Ellen Hayhoe, Louisa Jane Hayhoe and William Lee Hayhoe

Commenced return to Australia on 19 July 1919 aboard HT Oxfordshire disembarking on 13 August 1919
