When Frederick Richard Dykes enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. W. Tibbetts, Ryan, NSW.

He was born Frederick Dykes on 30 Oct 1880 in Sydney, NSW, a son to Janet Dykes. When he was 2 years old his mother married James William Tibbetts in 1882 at Ryde, NSW. He married twice in Queensland. On 15 Jul 1903 he married Mary Elizabeth Bell and they had 4 children before Mary passed in 1940. Then on 27 Oct 1945 he married Lillian May Mortimer.
