Son of James Henry Virgo and Sarah Virgo nee Hood of Penola Road, Mount. Gambier, SA.

Brother of Thomas Daniel Virgo who returned to Australia on 8 June 1919 having served with the 13th Field Artillery Brigade

Prior to enlisting for WW1 George had served with the 4th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse in the Boer War with the rank of Private and Service number 2725

Commenced return to Australia on 21 July 1917 aboard HT Themistocles disembarking at Fremantle on 13 September 1917 then transhipped to HT Nestor on 28 September for onward travel to Adelaide.
