Born 1870 in Wagga, NSW. 

Worked as a labourer and miner in Cooktown, QLD before enlisting aged 45 years having put his age down to 40 years. 

Served in France

Retunered to Cooktown in Australia in 1917 after being discharged due to a weak heart, rheumatism and being over aged.
