Biography contributed by Orroroo Area School

Percival Arnold Lowther was born in 1882. His family consisted of his mother Elizebeth Ann Lowther, his father Thomas Lowther and his sister R.J Symons. He was a Christian and a part of the Church of England. When he grew up he became a grocer and remained single.

Percival Lowther enlisted for the war on the 8th of September 1914 when he was 32 and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on the 22nd of December 1914 onboard the HMAT A32 Themistocles. Percival was part of the 1st Battalion. His service number was 1187.

The 1st Battalion were sent to ANZAC Cove Gallipoli. They were in the first and second wave of troops on the 25 of April 1915. They were under heavy fire from the Ottomans and many soldiers died on Anzac Cove. Unfortunately Percival Lowther did not make it to the end of the war and was killed in action presumably shot on the 2nd of May 1915. He was only in the war for seven days before being killed in action.

His sister R.J Symons tried to contact her brother. On the 18th of September 1916, she contacted the Australian Red Cross Society for information of his whereabouts. Unbeknownst to them was the fact that he was K.I.A, over a year before She then received a letter on the 13th of October informing her of her brothers death. Percival Arnold Lowther is now buried at the Lone Pine Memorial Gallipoli.
