168 lbs; fair complexion; hazle eyes; fair auburn hair; Roman Catholic

15/8/1941      enlisted in RAAF in Melbourne, Victoria
                     appointed to No.4 Initial Training School (ITS), Victor Harbour, South Australia

28/5/1942      promoted to Pilot Officer

10/8/1942      4th Squadron relocated to Kingaroy, QLD (from Canberra, ACT)

11/1/1942      embarked from Brisbane

1/11/1942      embarked for duty in New Guinea
17/11/1942    disembarked into Port Moresby and operated with Army

21/11/1942    arrived Bomana, New Guinea

28/11/1942    promoted to Flying Officer

26/12/1942    A CA-5 Wirraway aircraft, with the serial number A20-103. This aircraft served with
                     No.4 Squadron RAAF and on 26/12/1942 shot down a Japanese fighter (thought at the
                     time to be a Mitsubishi A6M Zero, but probably a Nakajima Ki-43 Oscar), in the
                     Buna-Gona area, New Guinea. (The crew at the time were 409285 Pilot Officer John
                     Sims Archer and 19712 Sergeant James Leslie Coulston).

11-14/1/1943 attached to HQEA in Sydney, NSW

19/1/1943      Awarded -  USA Silver Star - given to him by Brigadier General Ennis Whitehead

30/6/1943      returned to Australia

13/6/1944      attached to 1PD at Melbourne Cricket Grounds

March 1944     4th Squadron moved to Nadzab, New Guinea

28/5/1944       promoted to Flight Lieutenant

20/6/1944       posted to No.4 Army Co-Operation Squadron, New Guinea
