Son of Arthur Unsworth who was serving with the RFA, Plymouth, England.
3 November 1913 - Scarlett married Margaret Livsey in St. Cuthbert Parish Church, Burnley, Lancashire, England. Vicar J. Thornley officiated.
16 November 1914 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 4th Light Horse Regiment with the rank of Private
13 May 1916 - transferred to the 1st ANZAC Mounted Regiment with the rank of Trooper
7 July 1916 - transferred to the 2nd ANZAC Mounted Regiment
7 December 1918 - transferred to the 13th Light Horse Regiment
Commenced return to Australia on 15 May 1919 aboard HT Ypiringa disembarking on 5 July 1919
3 September 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District
In 1934 he was residing in Milton Place, Richmond, England
