Add my storyBiography
Harold did his training at Maitland, Coogee, Greta and Cairns, QLD. He served in the Citizen Military Forces (CMF) from 25/4/1942 to 19/2/1945 and the Australian Imperial Force from 20/2/1945 to 3/12/1945.
He was a Rifleman
War badge No. RAS # A169503
He was late joining the war as his father, George wanted him at home to run the property, 'Brookida Downs' at Molong, as his other son Norman was already fighting in the war.
Age at commencement of full time war service was 31 years.
While on guard duty in Bougainville, he felt stiff and moved very slightly. A shot rang out, hitting the spot where he had just been standing. Another time the Battalion had been trapped for three weeks, with not much chance of surviving the Japanese onslaught, when they were saved by a front of tanks.
Harold never knew his daughter until 3 weeks after the birth. The good news arrived by tank.
After coming out of the Army, he did a sheep and wool classing course through Sydney Tech and the Army.
