Died on this date – 7th September…… Thomas Charles Patrick Gooda was born at Rochester, Victoria in 1890.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 21st August, 1914 as a 24 year old, single, Grocer from Tongala, Victoria. Thomas Gooda stated on his Attestation Papers that he had previously served for 3 years with Victorian Rangers & 3 years with 17 Australian Light Horse.
Private Thomas Gooda, Service number 919, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Hororata (A20) on 19th October, 1914 with the 7th Infantry Battalion “H” Company.
On 27th October, 1914 Private Gooda was promoted to Lance Corporal.
He was appointed Corporal (prov) from 6th April, 1915.
Corporal Thomas Gooda was wounded at Gallipoli Peninsula on 25th April, 1915. He was wounded - Right Chest & was admitted to H.M.N.Z. Goslar at Dardanelles on 26th April, 1915. Corporal Gooda was transferred to Hospital Ship A13 on 29th April, 1915. He was admitted to H.M.T. Mashobra on 29th April, 1915 with bullet wound/s in Back.
He was admitted to Deaconess Hospital at Alexandria.
On 31st July, 1915 Corporal Gooda was still seriously ill but awaiting hospital ship for England with fracture of Spine. Corporal Gooda was transferred from Deaconess Hospital at Alexandria on 2nd August, 1915 to Sick Convoy for England. He embarked from Alexandria on Hospital Ship Glengorm Castle on 3rd August, 1915 for England.
He was admitted 3rd London General Hospital at Wandsworth, London, England on 15th August, 1915. He was pronounced dangerously ill on 24th August, 1915.
Corporal Thomas Gooda died on 7th September, 1915 at 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England from wounds received in action at Gallipoli Peninsula – G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to Back. (Statement of Service form recorded died G.S.W. Pelvis & Spine)
He was buried in Wandsworth (Earlsfield) Cemetery, London, England where 34 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
