Cecil Norman Green was a country boy from a small town called Geurie, near Dubbo, in N.S.W.
Norm as he was known at the age of 26 enlisted with friends in August 1940 and did his basic training at Cowra. Private Greenwas in the 26th Australian Supply Depot Platoon. Whilst in the Army he learnt to drive all army vehicles. He became a tank driver and was called Trooper Green.
1941 he was posted to the Middle East and spent time in Palestine, Jordan and Jerusalem.
1942 he was sent to New Guinea on the “Taroona” to Port Morseby and was then based at Milne Bay. While he was in Milne Bay he made many friends with the “fuzzy wuzzy” natives.
1945 he boarded the “Sea Barb” and disembarked at Morotai in British North Borneo. He returned on the “Kanimbla” and spent time in Adelaide.
Here he met Muriel Wheaton a friendly face at the CheerUp Hut. Norm was discharged in Sydney on the 12th November 1945, after serving in the armed forces for 1,914 days a huge trip for a young man from country NSW. He returned to Adelaide to marry Muriel. They first lived in Adelaide at Edwardstown and then moved to Fullarton with their two daughters Carol and Marilyn.
Norm died on the 10th August 1980 at the age of 67.
