Edward Norman Hodges

Who died in France on 23rd June 1918 was the younger son of the late Henry E.A. Hodges. He was born in 1887 and entered the Preparatory School in 1897. He came up to the Senior School in 1900, and matriculating in 1903 left and went to Trinity, where he resided from 1903 to 1908. He took his degree L.L.B. in 1908, and was admitted to practice as a barrister in 1911. He was at the Bar when he went to England and enlisted, and was appointed Lieut. in R.A.S.C. in July 1915, going to France three weeks later, attached to an Ammunition Column. He was subsequently promoted to Capt. awarded M.C. and was selected as Adjutant to Senior Mechanical Transport Officer of a Corps. He served in Somme operations, at Messines and in Flanders and died from pneumonia and arthritis.

In a letter just received by the mail particulars are given of the death and career of Captain Edward Norman Hodges. M.C., -A.S.C., who died of pneumonia in hospital, in France, on .June 22, aged 31. He was the younger son of Sir Henry Hodges, and came to England to join the army, and obtained his commission in July, 1915, going to the front three weeks later. He was attached to the ammunition column, of which he subsequently became-adjutant. He was afterwards selected as adjutant to the senior mechanical transport officer of a corps, and at the time of his death was under orders to take up an appointment at G.H.Q. He took part in the Somme operations in 1916 and other engagements, and later in operations in Flanders last year.
