Private Toogood was born 15th June 1888 at Rosehill, Parramatta, Australia the eldest  son of Laurence William and Eliza Toogood,[nee Jones] of Sydney, Australia. .A brother, William was born 1894.

He was a dental surgeon in Condobolin between 1911 and 1912 and went to New Zealand and then arrived in England a fortnight before the outbreak of the Great War. By early January 1915, he had enlisted at Watford in the Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line being attached to the Special Cavalry  Reserve. He was wounded in the retreat from Mons. He served with the 1st King Edward's Horse under Service Number 653. He died aged 26/27 on 25th August 1915 in Much Hadham Hertfordshire, England and was laid to rest in the Churchyard of St. Andrew's there. His wargrave is marked by a Private Memorial-white Marble Cross with kerbs.

He is on the Commemorative Roll Book in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and on the Pitt Row Public School Roll of Honour in Parramatta West Public School situated at the corner of Auburn and Franklin Streets in Parramatta. He is also commemorated on the Parramatta and District Great War Roll of Honour at Parramatta Town Hall in Church Street and on the St John’s Anglican Cathedral Memorial Arch at Church Street Mall.

Died on this date - Australian Private Percy William Toogood enlisted & was attached to the Special Cavalry Reserve, 1st King Edwards Horse Battalion. Trooper Percy William Toogood died on 25th August, 1915 at Much Hadham, Hertfordshire supposedly from suicide.
