He was 25 and the son of William and Ellen Forster, of Mains of Larg, New Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland. Emigrated aged 21.

He was in the OTC at Edinburgh University.

His brother, Private Andrew Forrester  Forster, 11th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. was killed in action at Gallipoli 17 May 1915. Aged 27. The brothers are remembered on the family grave in Inch Parish Churchyard and on the Inch War Memorial, which is set into the right hand side of the main entrance of Inch Parish Church, Castle Kennedy, Stranraer, Wigtownshire. The church is around 2 miles from Stranraer just off the main road to Dumfries. The plaque is cast in bronze. The rope in the photo is attached to the church bell.
