Private Reginald Harry Knight (Service No:8145) enlisted in the AIF on 9 August 1915, and was attached to 19th Australian Army Services Corps (AASC) Bakery on 27 November 1915, when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Suez on board HMAT A23 Suffolk. Private Knight was hospitalised in Egypt with Influenza and then loss of fingers. Embarking from Suez for Melbourne on 10 June 1916 on board HT Itonius, Private Knight was attached to 19th AASC Bakery at Discharge on 20 September 1916. In WWII Private Knight (Service No:Q232604) served in the ACMF with 7 Battalion (QLD) VDC from 18 June 1942 to 21 October 1945. Son Raymond (Service No:QX43397) served in WWII, and older brothers Arthur (Private; Royal Scots (Lothian) Regiment; KiA in France) and Herbert (Private; Special Reserves), and younger brother Walter (Royal Marines Light Infantry) served in the British Forces in WWI.
Harry was born in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England in 1894, seventh of eight children of Charles Knight (b1856 in Northamptonshire, England) and Alice Wooding (b1857 in Bedfordshire, England). Charles (a Shoe Riveter) and Alice (a Lacemaker) married in 1876 in Bedforshire, where they lived until the early 1880s. The family settled in Rushden, Northamptonshire where Charles worked as a Bootmaker.
Harry was a Baker's Moulder in England before immigrating in 1913, arriving in Fremantle on board the Zealandia. In 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF, Harry was a Baker in Toowoomba QLD, returning there following his Discharge. He was working as a Baker in Toowoomba in 1919 when he married Katharina Louise Brunner (b1898 in Toowoomba, QLD). Harry and Katharina settled in Toowoomba, where they raised their family and Harry worked as a Baker until retirement. Katharina died in 1956 and Harry in 1974.
