A.I.F. NURSE A PRISONER
IN SUMATRA
A.I.F. nurse who was taken prisoner of war two years ago is now in a camp in Palembang, Sumatra. She is Staff Nurse Ada (Mickie) Syer who was on the staff of Devonleigh Hospital, Cottesloe.
Her parents, Mr and Mrs F. L. Syer of Mornington, Victoria, recently received a card from her, the first news they had had since Singapore fell.
Although a Victorian, Nurse Syer visited this State several years ago and was so happy here that she stayed here, living with relatives, Mr and Mrs W. G. Sutton, of Claremont. She enlisted in the A.I.F. from this State and left Australia 2½ years ago. In her card she said that the camp was pretty and the sunsets were superb. Music was provided by a choir and was a great source of relaxation and pleasure to everyone.
