Charles Main was married to Sarah, and enlisted at the age of 45. Charles simply went missing on the 14 August 1916. He was confirmed as killed in action 7 months later. His brothers, 5383 Pte David Alexander Main, 16th Bn, died of disease, 4 July 1916 and 3394 Pte Alfred Ernest Main, 53rd Bn, was killed in action at Fromelles, 19 July 1916. Two other brothers also enlisted and served overseas. An older brother, Bryan Thomas Main, served with the New South Wales Imperial Bushmen during the Boer War.
