From the book Fallen Saints
Leslie Till Taylor was born in Adelaide. He attended St Peters College 1904-1912 and prior to enlistment was employed as a clerk and serving part time in D Company, 78th Infantry.
He enlisted at Keswick on 20 July 1915, was posted to the Infantry Base Depot at Mitcham Camp and when two companies of the 32nd Battalion were raised there in early August was posted to A Company as an acting corporal. He became seriously ill just days after joining the battalion, and on 16 August, was admitted to the clearing hospital at Mitcham where he was treated for Influenza.
When discharged from the hospital on 21 August he was granted two days sick leave but as he was still unwell when he returned to the camp, his commanding officer granted him an additional three days sick leave.
The Senior Medical Officer at Mitcham Camp, Dr Brummit visited Leslie at his home on 27 August then learned he had died the following day while being transported to the Adelaide Hospital. [i]
Corporal Leslie Taylor was only twenty one years of age when he died of Cerebrospinal Meningitis on 28 August 1915; he was buried at North Road Anglican Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia.
