John Wycliffe Wootten was the Minister of the Wardell Methodist Church prior to the war. John was recommended for a Military Medal for his work as a company runner at Bullecourt during May 1917, but did not have the medal awarded. His younger brother, 2471 Lce. Cpl. William Halden Wootten, 4th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Lagnicourt 15 April, 1917, age 25.
