Campaigns Served:   Gallipoli; Egypt; Palestine; Syria. He saw Special action at Maghara, Bassheba, 2nd Gaza, Es Salt. Was Commanding Squadron on 3 occasions.

War Service/Promotions:   Arrived in Egypt 18 July 1915. Joined and Taken On Strength of 7th Light Horse Regiment, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, on 2 October 1915. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, 7th Light Horse Regiment, 8 December 1915. Returned to Alexandria, Egypt on HMT Beltana, on 25 December 1915. Transferred to 12th Light Horse Regiment on 21 February 1916, and marched out to Oasis Camp, Helipolis, Egypt. He was promoted to Lieutenant, 22 February 1916. Sick leave from 1 November to 8 November 1916. To School of Instruction, Zeitoun, Egypt, 28 January 1917, rejoining unit on 17 February 1917. Marched out to 4th Brigade on 1 June 1917, rejoining 12th Light Horse on 1 July 1917. He attended 5th Topographical Course (passed) at School of Instruction, from 25 August 1917 to 16 September 1917. At Rest Camp, Port Said, Egypt, from 24 September 1917 to 4 October 1917. Another leave to Rest Camp, Port Said on 10 March 1918, rejoining 12th Light Horse on 22 March 1918. To Scouts School, El Arish, Egypt, 1 April 1918. Seconded to 12th Training Squadron on 30 May 1918, and admitted to hospital with malaria the next day, and discharged on 18 June 1918. In June he was with the 12th Training Squadron. Marched in ex AIF Headquarters, 20 Rest Camp, Port Said, on 3 July 1918. By 7 November 1981 he was again with 4th Light Horse Training Squadron. Ceased to be seconded to 12th Training Squadron and resumed duty with 12th L/H on 7 November 1918. Recommended for promotion to Temporary Captain on 2 February 1919.

Recommendation for Promotion:   Higher Commander’s Remarks:  'A very good Troop leader, & fit for promotion. A reliable officer who has at different times commanded a Squadron to my criteri (sic) satisfaction. A good officer in action & at all times paying great attention to the case of the men under his command. A good disciplinarian & a fair instructor. Fate:   Returned to Australia from Kanara, Egypt, per HT Morvada, on 20 July 1919. His appointment was terminated on 28 October 1919. He married Marjorie Mary Brierley, 26 August 1924, St James' Church, King Street, Sydney, NSW.
