MR. JUSTICE BETTS.
Death Last Night.
Mr. Justice Selwyn Frederic Betts, of the Industrial Commission, died last night at his home, in Bradley's Head Road, Mosman, at the age of 59 years.
The late Mr Justite Betts was the second son of the late Mr A M Betts, who was a well-known Goulburn solicitor. He was educated at King's College, Goulburn, and called to the Bar in May, 1903. He had an extensive practice in common law, especially in the southern circuit, both in civil and criminal jurisdictions. He was the joint author of the standard work on the procedure and practice of the Supreme Court. Before his appointment to the Industrial Commission, Mr Justice Betts had been a Judge of the District Court, and had acted as Deputy Chairman of the Woikers' Compensation Commission. He served with the 33rd Battalion, AIF, in France. Mr Justice Betts became suddenly ill yesterday morning and did not attend the Court during the day. He died at 11.30 pm.
