Returned to Australia per 'Britannic' 29 July 1901

DEATH OF A RETURNED SOLDIER.
Private Louis Lemcke, a member of the contingent which returned by the Britannic on Tuesday last, died at the Melbourne Hospital on Saturday evening of pneumonia supervening on measles. The deceased trooper was 23 years of age, and resided at Ballan.

The funeral of the late Louis Lemcke, of the South, African Cavalry, who died on Saturday in Melbourne, took place yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. A firing party, composed of the lately returned soldiers from South Africa and members of the Ballan Rifle Club, discharged three volleys over the grave. The Rev. J. H. Chaseling, vicar of St. John’s, officiated in the church and at the grave. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr F. Mehrens, of Ballan.
