Son of Leander George Quail and Mary Quail nee Milton of Buchan, East Gippsland, Victoria. Brother of Charles Quail who returned to Australia on 11 June 1919 having served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment.
Commenced return to Australia on 22 August 1919 aboard HT Malta disembarking on 7 August 1919
